Carkeek Grill - 6th Ave NW and Holman
An ex-Burgermaster in a min-mall, next to a QFC. I had the Combo 2: hamburger, fries, and small drink. The hamburger had a bevvy of fresh veggies on it, more than I had expected. It looked quite tall in its metallic wrapper; so much so that I thought I had accidentally ordered some triple-pattied, extra bun-in-the-middle monstrosity that you can get at McD's or Burger King. But, thank goodness, no. Fries come in an upright cup, which is kinda cute. They could have been crisper, though. All You Can Pump Ketchup in little paper cups. Husband had the Swedish Pancakes, which could have been thinner, he said. I did not try them, as I didn't want to cross the streams. $11.70
Thai Rama II - 83 Spring Street
At the southern end of Post Alley, where it still looks like a real alley, albeit a pretty clean one. Husband and I had the fried tofu appetizer (neat pile of "bricks" with a chopped peanut-laden plum sauce), the Jungle Chicken (spinach, basil, broccoli, chicken, etc. in a spicy soy sauce-esque sauce), and Yellow Curry (potatoes, carrots, onions and tofu; simple, creamy and tasty). $24.48.
Two women came in and sat near us as we were working on the fried tofu. They sat perpendicular to our table, so one of them was talking directly at us, unintentionally. She rid a dog of a tumor through diet during a period of five years, and further claimed that most deaths -- canine or otherwise -- were due to malnutrition. She and her friend went on to have a discussion about why some people can't taste "that lithmus paper in 8th grade biology class." Tumor dog woman then ordered a bloody mary. The whole thing reminded me strongly of the doula/pregnant couple chat in a Greek restaurant in Issaquah a few years ago, but I don't think anyone needs me to go into that.
